I Saw a Mother and a Daughter

I saw a mother and a daughter on the train today

I dare say it made me cry

To watch them laughing and giggling away

Whilst I was thinking of times gone by

***

I saw a mother and a daughter do the weekly shop

And one thought stuck in my brain

I’d give anything to have that chance again with Mum

Without her being in so much pain

***

But no matter how many mothers and daughters I’ve seen

No matter how much time it’s been

The pain in my heart won’t begin to cease

It finds it too hard to find peace
